Kulttuurihistoria, Department of Cultural History (Turku, Finland)

The Institute for Cultural History at the University of Turku in southern Finland examines peoples’ habits, their behaviour and the plans on the basis of which they construct their lives and integrate with their surroundings. The research thus concentrates not only on the advanced culture, but also deals with everyday and mentality history, as well as “popular culture”. The objective is to reveal the connections between the different elements of culture and thus draw an overall picture of the past and of different past epochs. The Institute was among the first to make it possible to gain a full academic degree in cultural history. The co-operation with the Research Group HKW includes above all the exchange of students and lecturers, in addition to that, in the medium term co-operation in the field of research is also planned.
