In the years 2005-2008, historical-cultural studies work took place at the Universities of Mainz and Trier above all within the framework of the interdisciplinary, interuniversity Historical-Cultural Studies Research Centre (HKFZ) Mainz-Trier. Through the reorganisation of state research promotion in 2008, this type of institutional collaboration could not be continued. The work of the then HKFZ Mainz-Trier is being continued in Mainz by the Research Group Historical Cultural Sciences and in Trier by the Historical Cultural Sciences Research Centre Trier.
Both institutions continue to cooperate at the level of individual projects, in the research field “Knowledge Areas”, in joint events and in the promotion of the rising generation of academics.
